| Obverse description | Bust of Ferdinando I (Ferrante) of Naples facing right, depicted in a crude but characteristically late-medieval hammered style. The effigy occupies the central field, showing the king with a distinctive profile and what appears to be a simple crown or diadem. The circumferential Latin legend FERRANDVS REX runs around the periphery, partially separated by a beaded inner border. The die workmanship is typical of the L'Aquila mint output of the second half of the fifteenth century, with irregular flan edges and uneven strike pressure evident. |
