The Boo-yūn mint — romanization of 寶雲, the Yunnan provincial mint — was among the most geographically remote in the Qing cash system, operating in a province where copper supply was theoretically advantageous given Yunnan's substantial mining output. In practice, the mid-Daoguang period saw that advantage eroded by smuggling, official corruption, and the diversion of copper to private casting, forcing periodic output reductions and alloy adjustments across the province's mints.
