Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin featuring four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square hole. The inscription reads clockwise from the top: 大 (Dà), 寶 (Bǎo), 曆 (Lì), 元 (Yuán), rendered in regular script (kaishu). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief within the inner field, bounded by a plain raised inner rim surrounding the square perforation and a plain outer rim at the coin's edge. The fields between the characters are flat and unadorned.
