The inscription reads clockwise from the top: 大 (Dà), 寶 (Bǎo), 曆 (Lì), 元 (Yuán), rendered in regular script (kaishu). The characters are boldly cast in raised relief within the inner field, bounded by a plain raised inner rim surrounding the square perforation and a plain outer rim at the coin's edge. The fields between the characters are flat and unadorned. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The Dali Yuanbao was issued during the reign of Emperor Daizong, a period when the Tang dynasty was clawing back stability after the catastrophic An Lushan Rebellion had gutted imperial finances and scattered the court. Emergency cash coinages of this era were frequently debased and inconsistently produced, with provincial mints operating under minimal central oversight. The "without mark" variety lacks the supervisory mint or workshop character found on related issues, a feature that continues to complicate precise attribution to specific casting sites.
