Reverse description Central rectangular cartouche enclosing three kanji characters arranged vertically: 一 (ichi, one), 分 (bu, a unit of value), and 銀 (gin, silver), collectively reading 'one bu silver.' The cartouche is framed by a surrounding border of twenty Sakura (cherry blossom) floral ornaments, of which any one of the nine lowermost may appear inverted as a recognized die variety. The overall composition is characteristic of Edo-period monetary art, combining formal calligraphic script with decorative floral patterning.
