| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central short cross pattée set within a beaded inner circle, the arms of the cross extending to the circle's edge. Two concentric legends in uncial Gothic lettering surround the central motif, separated by a beaded border: the inner legend reads the duke's name and title, while the outer legend reads 'SIGNUM CRUCIS' (Sign of the Cross). The overall design is characteristic of the Brabantine groat series, executed in the hammered technique with slightly irregular flan edges. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
John III ruled Brabant from 1312 until 1355, one of the longer and more stable reigns in the duchy's history. His monetary policy was notably active — he negotiated coinage agreements with neighboring lords to regularize exchange rates across the Low Countries, a persistent problem in a region where a dozen different coinages circulated simultaneously within a single market town.
The quarter groat denomination itself reflects the practical demands of small commerce in early fourteenth-century Brabant, where full groats were too valuable for everyday transactions.
