| Beschrijving voorzijde | This piece is a countermarked host coin, struck over an earlier Portuguese India 1/2 Tanga issue. The countermark 'PR 809', applied in the field, denotes 'Portaria Registada Nr. 809', a formal administrative revalidation order issued under King Miguel I between 1831 and 1834. The underlying host coin retains faint traces of its original design — a standing royal or allegorical figure visible in the central field — though heavily worn and partially obscured by the countermarking process. The flan is irregular and planchet distortion is evident, consistent with the hammered technique used on earlier Portuguese India copper coinage. |
