| Popis líce | The Stanley heraldic crest occupies the central field: an eagle with wings displayed and head lowered, perched atop a swaddled infant (the 'eagle and child' device), the whole resting upon a cap of maintenance set on a coronet. The motto legend SANS · CHANGER arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1733 positioned in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in bold relief with fine feather detail on the eagle, consistent with early eighteenth-century milled coinage engraving. |

James Stanley, the 10th Earl of Derby, held the Isle of Man as a feudal possession of the Stanley family — a tenure stretching back to 1405. The 1733 copper issues were struck under the authority of James Murray, 2nd Duke of Atholl, who had inherited the lordship through the female Stanley line, though the coins continued to bear the Stanley name. The island's currency remained entirely separate from British coinage until the Revestment Act of 1765, when the Crown purchased the remaining feudal rights for £70,000.
