| 正面描述 | Uncrowned left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, occupies the central field. The king is depicted with a bare head, his natural hair neatly combed, and a truncated, draped bust. The engraver's initials 'HP' appear discreetly below the bust truncation. The surrounding legend 'GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX' arcs around the upper periphery in bold serif capital letters. The design is enclosed by a fine toothed border. |

| 背面描述 | The central field displays a finely detailed rendering of a Dutch East India Company sailing vessel — a full-rigged, three-masted galleon under sail — depicted in three-quarter view traversing stylised waves, referencing the historic VOC ships that first rounded the Cape. The denomination '1/2 D' appears at the bottom centre of the field, flanked by two small decorative rosette or asterisk ornaments on either side. The bilingual legend 'SOUTH·AFRICA' and 'SUID·AFRIKA' arcs around the left and right periphery respectively, with the date of issue positioned at the top between the two. The design is attributed to engraver George Kruger Gray and is enclosed by a toothed border. |
