| Obverse description | A large five-pointed star dominates the centre of the obverse, with the date 1958 flanking the star's upper points — '19' to the left and '58' to the right. The legend 'GHANA' curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 'HALF PENNY' is inscribed in two lines across the lower field. Two raised dots flank the star at mid-field, and the entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded rim. The composition is the work of engraver P.K.K. Quaidoo. |

| Reverse description | A bare-headed portrait bust of Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana, faces right in high relief, occupying the central field. The legend 'CIVITATIS GHANIENSIS CONDITOR' arcs along the upper periphery, identifying him as the Founder of the State of Ghana. The name 'KWAME NKRUMAH' is inscribed along the lower periphery, flanked by two small five-pointed stars. The engraver's initials 'P.V.' for Paul Vincze appear discreetly on the truncation. The design is framed by a beaded border consistent with the obverse. |
