| Obverse description | Central field bears the Costa Rican national coat of arms, depicting a landscape with three volcanoes, a sailing ship on each side, and a rising sun, all within an ornate baroque shield. The shield is flanked by laurel branches curving upward from the base and meeting at the lower edge of the shield. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, while the date appears prominently in the exergue at the bottom of the coin. |
