| Description du revers | The reverse presents a dramatic low-angle view of the American flag atop a tall flagpole as perceived from the vantage point of children looking upward, with the flag rendered in dynamic, waving relief. The American Legion's official emblem appears prominently above the flag, linking the commemorative theme to the centennial of the organization. The legend OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA completes the Pledge of Allegiance phrase begun on the obverse, arcing across the field. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the denomination HALF DOLLAR are also present in the legend. The design was executed by engraver Joseph Menna in a bold, perspective-driven composition befitting a modern United States commemorative half dollar. |
