正面描述 Central shield displaying the quartered arms of Prussia and Neuchâtel, with the smaller escutcheon of the eagle of Neuchâtel en pointe at the base, all surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is rendered in fine relief with hatching denoting the heraldic tinctures. A circular Latin legend surrounds the arms within a beaded border, with a rosette separating the beginning and end of the inscription.

附加信息

Neuchâtel's peculiar status made coinage here a political statement by default. The principality had been a Prussian possession since 1707, when Frederick I secured it through inheritance — a Swiss territory ruled by a Hohenzollern, an arrangement that sat uneasily with neighboring cantons for nearly a century. These pieces were struck under Frederick William III just as the French Revolutionary armies were redrawing the map of Europe, and Neuchâtel's continued Prussian allegiance in that climate was far from guaranteed.

Within seven years of this issue, Napoleon handed the principality to Marshal Berthier, ending Hohenzollern rule entirely.
