| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays the Shahada inscription 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God) in bold raised Arabic calligraphy arranged across two lines, enclosed within a circular inner border. The Hijri date 1343 appears in Eastern Arabic numerals beneath the central legend. The annular border between the inner circle and the coin's rim is decorated with a series of evenly spaced six-pointed star ornaments, giving the reverse a distinctive and ornate appearance. |

The Mutawakkilite Kingdom issued these small bronzes under Imam Yahya ibn Muhammad, who had consolidated power over highland Yemen only after decades of conflict with the Ottomans — the 1911 Treaty of Da'an gave him significant autonomy, and the Ottoman collapse after World War I left him effectively sovereign. The 1⁄160 riyal denomination reflects a fractional system built around the traditional qirsh and its subdivisions, a monetary structure more rooted in custom than administrative convenience.
These are the first coins struck for the independent Yemeni imamate, making Y#1 a genuine inaugural issue for the series.
