The exergue contains the mint mark identifying the issuing workshop, which varies by striking location. The circular legend reads SIT•NOM•DOM BENEDICT•, followed by the year of striking, invoking the blessing of the Lord's name — a traditional pious motto employed on French royal billon coinage of the period. The overall composition is symmetrical and typical of the royal sol type struck across numerous French provincial mints during the reign of Louis XV. |
