The Banco y Casa de Moneda was Buenos Aires province's own institution, operating independently of the national government during a period when the Argentine Confederation and the State of Buenos Aires had only recently reconciled — the province didn't fully relinquish its separate financial apparatus until well into the 1860s. This note dates from the tail end of that transitional period, when the provincial bank still maintained meaningful autonomy over local currency.

The archaic spelling "Ayres" on the issuing authority line persisted in official documents long after common usage had shifted to "Aires" — not an error, simply institutional conservatism.
