| 正面描述 | Bare head of Eshmun (the Phoenician god of healing, assimilated with Asclepius) facing right, rendered in a naturalistic Hellenistic style with short curly hair. A kerykeion (caduceus) is depicted to the right of the bust in the field. The portrait is bold and in relatively high relief for a hammered bronze issue, occupying the majority of the flan. |

Melita — modern Malta — sat at a crossroads exploited by Phoenicians, Greeks, and Carthaginians in turn before Rome consolidated control of the central Mediterranean following the Second Punic War. This issue falls within that transitional period, when the island passed definitively into the Roman provincial sphere yet retained enough autonomy to strike its own bronze coinage with distinctly Punic cultural inflections. The mint was small and output limited, which explains why this type turns up across such a disparate range of collections — Basel, Copenhagen, de Luynes — without any single hoard dominating the known population.
