| 背面描述 | Central device depicts the wheel of Saint Catherine, rendered as a spoked wheel with an inner circular ring enclosing a star-like or cross pattern formed by the wheel's spokes and rim segments. The denomination value appears in the outer ring surrounding the wheel, with the letters 'IO' visible, referencing the reign of João V. The design is typical of cast Portuguese India copper coinage, with irregular surface texture consistent with the casting technique. The wheel motif is a longstanding iconographic reference to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, patron of the Damão–Baçaim region. |

The "wheel" copper-alloy coins of Portuguese India's northern province were struck at Damão specifically to supply the Baçaim (Bassein) market — a logistical arrangement that reflects how thinly the Estado da India's minting infrastructure was stretched by the early eighteenth century. João V's long reign from 1706 to 1750 meant this type was produced across several decades, during which Portuguese control of the Konkan coast was under sustained Maratha pressure; Baçaim itself fell to the Marathas in 1739, effectively truncating the coin's intended circulation territory mid-issue.
