Obverse description The field is divided into four quarters by a plain cross, with two walking bulls (vaches) in the first and fourth quarters and two crowned Ls in the second and third quarters. The crowned Ls stand upright, their fleurs-de-lis finials visible within their respective quarters. A beaded inner circle frames the quartered design. The surrounding legend reads LVDOVI. 13. D. G. FRAN. E. NA., identifying Louis XIII as King of France and Navarre.

Reverse description A decorative cross with trefoil or quatrefoil terminations divides the field into four quarters, each containing one digit of the date 1641, reading clockwise from the upper left. The arms of the cross are ornamented with foliate flourishes typical of this hammered issue. The surrounding legend, separated by pellets, reads .GRATIA. DEI. SVM. ID. Q. S., a devotional motto affirming divine grace.
