Reverse description Large Roman numeral V occupies the centre of the field, representing the denomination of five réis. The numeral is flanked on all four sides by the mint mark letter P, forming a cruciform arrangement of four Ps (PPPP) around the central value numeral, with decorative foliate or scroll ornaments filling the interstices. The date and legend are disposed in a circular band around the periphery, with the inscription reading in two arcs separated by the mint letters.
