The Principality of Chach occupied the Tashkent oasis in what is now Uzbekistan, a transit node on the Sogdian trade network where coinage served local exchange rather than imperial tribute. These small bronzes proliferated under a succession of rulers whose names survive only in fragmentary Sogdian inscriptions — the "Stachak" designation in modern typologies refers to a ruler class rather than a confirmed individual name, reconstructed from coin legends that remain only partially deciphered.
Sh&K 231 falls within a broad two-century window precisely because the archaeological stratigraphy of the Chach region has never been refined enough to compress the attribution further.
