Uxama Argaela, situated on a commanding meseta above the Duero valley in what is now Burgo de Osma, was a Celtiberian oppidum that the Romans found strategically impossible to ignore. The city issued bronze coinage during a period bracketed by sustained Roman military pressure in Hispania, including the prolonged and brutal campaigns that culminated in the fall of Numantia in 133 BC — a city less than 60 kilometers away. Whether Uxama's mint operated with Roman tolerance or in spite of it remains an open question among Iberian numismatists.
The ACIP 1929 attribution places this within a well-documented Celtiberian series using Iberian script, though die-linkage studies within the CNH corpus suggest the emission run was modest and concentrated.
