The Cessetani were an Iberian people occupying the coastal territory around what is now Tarragona, and their bronze coinage emerged directly from the disruption of the Second Punic War. When Scipio Africanus landed at Emporion in 218 BC, the Roman military presence fundamentally reorganized indigenous economies along the northeastern Iberian coast. Cessetanian issues like this one likely served Roman logistical networks as much as local exchange — the timing is too precise to be coincidental.
ACIP 1108 is among the heavier cast in this series, placing it at the upper end of the unit denomination's weight range.
