Saltuie was an Iberian settlement whose precise location was debated for decades until its identification with the site beneath modern Zaragoza gained general acceptance — making this bronze one of the earliest coins struck at what would become Caesar Augusta, later Zaragoza. The oppidum issued coinage under Roman administrative pressure during a period when indigenous Iberian mints were being systematically brought into the Roman monetary orbit following the Gracchan provincial reorganization.
