Obverse description Armored and crowned bust of King John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing an ornate royal crown with cross finial and elaborate armor with decorative gorget visible at the truncation. The king's long flowing hair and short beard are rendered with fine detail characteristic of mid-17th century Polish royal portraiture. A beaded inner border frames the effigy. The circumferential Latin legend reads: IOAN∙CAS∙D∙G∙REX∙POLON∙&∙SVE∙M∙D∙L∙R∙P∙, identifying the king as John Casimir, by the Grace of God King of Poland and Sweden, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia and Prussia.
