Argos maintained its own silver coinage well into the Roman provincial period, long after many neighboring Peloponnesian mints had effectively ceased independent production. This issue falls within a phase when Achaean League authority was nominally dissolved following Rome's destruction of Corinth in 146 BC, leaving individual poleis to navigate their own monetary arrangements under Roman oversight. The triobol denomination — three obols, half a drachm — had deep roots in Argive practice and continued to serve local exchange needs during this politically ambiguous half-century.
