| Beschrijving voorzijde | Helmeted head of Athena in right profile, wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head. The helmet is rendered with a smooth bowl and a plain cheekpiece, with the face of the goddess depicted in the refined late Classical style typical of Arkadian coinage. The portrait is set within a broad, slightly irregular flan with no visible legend or border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Mantinea had been razed by Sparta in 385 BC — its population forcibly dispersed into four separate villages — and only refounded as a unified polis in 370 BC following the Spartan defeat at Leuctra. This coin belongs to the first sustained civic coinage the city was able to produce after that refoundation, making it a direct product of Theban hegemony reshaping the Peloponnesian political order.
The BCD Peloponnesos reference places this specimen within one of the most rigorously catalogued regional collections ever assembled, the Lanz auction of 2006 remaining the standard for Arkadian coinage attribution.
