Sikyon occupied an awkward political position during this decade — nominally within Philip II of Macedon's expanding sphere after 338 BC, yet retaining enough civic autonomy to continue issuing its own silver. The triobol denomination served interregional trade rather than purely local exchange, reflecting Sikyon's position as a commercial hub on the Gulf of Corinth route between the Peloponnese and central Greece.
BCD 237 is a well-documented specimen from the Basil Demetriadi collection, one of the most rigorously catalogued Peloponnesian series ever assembled at auction.
