| Obverse description | Facing right, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Theodosius II, rendered in the frontal three-quarter style characteristic of late antique imperial portraiture. The effigy displays the emperor in military dress with paludamentum visible at the shoulder, the pearl diadem signifying imperial dignity. The legend encircles the bust, rendered in Latin capitals within a beaded border. The die work reflects the refined workshop standards of the Constantinople mint in the mid-fifth century. |
