| Obverse description | Facing bust of King Sisebut rendered in the schematic, highly stylised Visigothic manner, depicting the monarch with a broad, flat face and rudimentary facial features. The figure is shown draped in a segmented cuirass or torque collar with horizontal ridges, characteristic of late antique regal iconography as reinterpreted by Visigothic die-cutters. The bust is surrounded by a circular Latin legend reading + SISEBVTVS REX, arranged around the inner border of the coin. The field is populated with star-shaped or cross-pattée decorative elements flanking the bust, creating a dense, jewelled aesthetic typical of Visigothic tremisses. A beaded or pellet border runs along the outer rim. |
