Obverse description Diademed and draped bust facing right, rendered in the debased late antique style characteristic of early Merovingian gold coinage. A serrated or toothed border encircles the flan. To the right of the effigy stands a cross pattée with a pellet above and a pellet below, flanking the bust in the field. The portrait is schematically executed, with the diadem suggested by a band of pellets, reflecting the progressive stylization of Frankish monetary art in the early seventh century.
