The circumferential Latin legend reads ANTONIVS : I : D : G : REX : P : ET ALG, identifying António I as King of Portugal and the Algarves. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular fabric and bold relief typical of hammered silver coinage of the late sixteenth century. |
