Obverse description Quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, surmounted by a bishop's mitre and flanked on either side by two crossed croziers with tasselled cords, all set within a beaded inner circle. The arms display the traditional Salzburg divisions including the rampant lion and the cross. The circular legend surrounding the shield reads MAX GAND D G AR EP SAL SE AP L, identifying the issuing archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg. The square klippe format gives the coin its distinctive diamond shape with plain clipped corners.

Reverse description Enthroned half-length figure of Saint Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, facing front, vested in episcopal robes and mitre, holding a crozier in his left hand and a salt cellar in his right. The denominational fraction 1/9 appears in a cartouche or shield at the lower center of the design. The circular legend S RVDBERTTVS EPS SALISB surrounds the saint, with the date appearing in the upper field. The composition is contained within a beaded inner circle, consistent with the hammered klippe coinage of the Salzburg mint.
