Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover occupied a peculiar constitutional position in the 1790s: its ruler, George III, was simultaneously King of Great Britain and Ireland, yet the Electorate remained a technically separate entity under the Holy Roman Empire until Napoleon dissolved it in 1806.
