Frederick I was crowned King *in* Prussia on January 18, 1701 — a careful diplomatic distinction forced on him by the Holy Roman Empire, which refused to recognize a king *of* Prussia over territory partly within imperial boundaries. The ⅔ Thaler denomination itself was a concession to commerce: it equated to the Dutch Rijksdaalder and circulated widely in northern European trade networks that cared little for Hohenzollern dynastic ambitions.
The .750 fineness fell below the Leipzig Convention standard, a deliberate choice that kept production profitable while the new kingdom burned money establishing its court at Berlin.
