正面描述 A finely modelled horse advancing to the right in a walking pose, with the raised right foreleg lifted off the ground in a prancing stance. The animal is depicted with naturalistic detail, including a flowing mane and well-articulated musculature, rendered in the archaic Greek artistic tradition. The field is plain and unlettered, with no exergual line visible. The coin's irregular flan gives the type a characteristic hand-struck appearance typical of early Macedonian silver coinage.

附加信息

Perdiccas II ruled Macedonia through one of the most tactically complex periods in northern Greek politics, repeatedly switching alliances between Athens and Sparta as the pressures of the Peloponnesian War mounted. His relationship with Athens was particularly volatile — he actively encouraged the Chalcidian cities to revolt from the Athenian empire around 432 BC, then sought Athenian support when it suited him, then undermined it again. The tetrobol belongs to a coinage that financed exactly this kind of fractious, shifting statecraft on the Macedonian frontier.
