| Obverse description | Facing slightly right, the wreathed head of the nymph Histaia rendered in fine archaic style, her hair elaborately arranged with a vine wreath. A countermark depicting a facing gorgoneion has been applied over the field, its apotropaic visage with protruding tongue and serpentine locks clearly impressed into the coin's surface at a later date. |
