Marcianopolis, founded by Trajan and named for his sister Marciana, became one of the principal minting centers of Moesia Inferior during the Severan period. The magistrate name preserved in this coin's legend — Faustinianus — anchors it to a specific administrative moment in the province's history, and cross-referencing his tenure against the imperial titulature of Severus helps narrow the emission to the 207–210 window. Provincial bronze of this region circulated aggressively in local trade and rarely survived without heavy wear; the Varb#786 type is not common in collectible condition.
