The Greek inscription ΠΛΛΛ appears above the horse in the upper field. A pellet-in-square symbol is placed before the horse, and a pellet-in-annulet symbol appears behind, serving as control marks. The design ultimately derives from the mounted rider reverse of Philip II of Macedon tetradrachms but is transformed through successive Celtic reinterpretation into a highly stylised decorative composition. |
