Vologases III ruled during one of the more turbulent stretches of Parthian history, his reign shadowed by Roman military pressure under Trajan and later Hadrian, as well as persistent dynastic challenges from within the Arsacid family. The billon composition of this issue reflects a gradual debasement that accelerated across the late Parthian tetradrachm series — silver content declining as the empire's fiscal pressures mounted.
The monogram A designation follows Sellwood's classification system for die varieties within this type. Shore 411 confirms the attribution.
