Vespasian's first regnal year in Alexandria is numismatically loaded. Egypt declared for him in July 69 AD — before the rest of the empire fell into line — making the Alexandria mint one of the earliest producers of Flavian coinage anywhere. The ΕΙΡΗΝΗ reverse was no accident: after the Year of the Four Emperors had burned through Galba, Otho, and Vitellius in rapid succession, peace wasn't an abstraction but an active political argument for the new dynasty's legitimacy.
