| Descrizione del dritto | Highly stylised and abstracted Celtic interpretation of the head of Dionysos facing right, derived from the Thasian tetradrachm prototype. The wreath of ivy leaves is rendered as a bold, schematic crown of pellet-tipped projections above the brow. The hair is depicted as deeply incised parallel strokes radiating from the crown, while the facial features are reduced to geometric forms, retaining the broad outline of the prototype but executed in a distinctly Celtic aesthetic. The flan is irregular and the relief is vigorous, characteristic of Celtic hand-struck coinage. |
