| Beschrijving voorzijde | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, wearing a Attic crested helmet adorned with a palmette on the bowl and a floral scroll above the visor, with flowing locks of hair visible beneath. The goddess's features are rendered in the late New Style Athenian tradition, with a serene, idealized countenance and a prominent earring visible. The hair falls in wavy strands over the nape of the neck behind the helmet cheekpiece. A fine beaded border encircles the entire obverse field. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
This piece belongs to the so-called New Style coinage Athens adopted around 196 BC, a deliberate reform replacing the archaic "owl" coinage that had circulated with minimal change for over three centuries. The magistrate names on New Style tetradrachms — here Sokrates, Dionysodo[ros], and Zoilos — identify the annual board responsible for that issue, giving scholars an unusually precise administrative record of Athenian mint management during a period when the city operated under Roman oversight following the conclusion of the Third Macedonian War in 168 BC.
Thompson's 1961 corpus remains the foundational reference for this series. Thompson #614d places this emission firmly in the 116–115 BC window.
