Long flowing locks of hair fall behind the neck in carefully engraved strands. The portrait is boldly modelled in high relief against a smooth, unlettered field, exhibiting the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of the Ilian mint during the post-Apamean period. |

An owl, the sacred bird of Athena, stands facing right at her feet to the lower right of the field. To the inner left, a monogram appears above a star. The magistrate's name ΦΟΙΝΙΚΟΣ appears in the exergue, with the principal legend ΑΘΗΝΑΣ ΙΛΙΑΔΟΣ distributed in the field, identifying the coin as an issue of the sanctuary of Athena Ilias. |
