背面描述 A mounted warrior on a horse rearing to the right, poised to deliver a spear-thrust downward toward a fallen or crouching enemy who defends himself with a raised round shield. The composition closely follows the Macedonian tetradrachm of Patraos, king of the Paionians, though rendered in a Celticised, more schematic style. The Greek inscription ΠATPAOY appears before the horseman in the left field. The scene is set within a plain field with no exergue line.

附加信息

The Agrianes were a Paeonian tribe occupying the upper Strymon valley, best known historically as elite javelin infantry — Alexander the Great recruited them as a specialized corps and deployed them in nearly every major engagement from Granicus to the Punjab. That military relationship with Macedon is almost certainly why Agrianean coinage adopted Macedonian weight standards and iconographic conventions rather than developing independent types.

Patraos ruled Paeonia roughly 335–315 BC, placing the core of this type's production squarely within the Alexandrine period.
