| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bareheaded and diademed portrait bust of Mithridates VI Eupator facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic royal tradition with strongly idealized features evoking the likeness of Alexander the Great. The king's abundant, flowing hair rises dramatically above the forehead and falls in thick, animated locks about the neck and shoulders, a distinctive artistic hallmark of his coinage. The facial profile is sharply struck, exhibiting a prominent aquiline nose, firm chin, and youthful idealized countenance characteristic of the Pontic royal portrait type. The diadem, a narrow fillet tied at the back, is visible along the hairline. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, as is typical of late Pontic tetradrachm production. |
