| Reverse description | Standing figure of Maximianus as Herakles, nude, facing left, holding a small figure or object in his extended right hand and a club or drapery in his lowered left hand, with a lion skin draped over his left arm. The composition references the emperor's divine association with Hercules, a hallmark of Maximianus's Tetrarchic propaganda. In the left field appears the regnal year numeral L (date marker), with ς (digamma, representing year 6) placed to the right, corresponding to the Alexandrian regnal year 6 of Diocletian's reign (290–291 AD). The reverse field is otherwise plain, with the figures rendered in the compact, slightly provincial style typical of late Alexandrian billon tetradrachms. |
