Lysimachus was killed at the Battle of Corupedium in 281 BC — the very year assigned to this issue — making coins struck in his name at Cyzicus that year among the last produced under his living authority, or possibly the first struck posthumously as the city navigated the immediate political vacuum. Cyzicus continued issuing tetradrachms in his name well after his death, a practice that speaks to the commercial utility of a trusted coin type rather than any loyalty to the man himself.
