| Beschrijving voorzijde | Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, portrayed with the ram's horn of Ammon curling behind the ear, a divine attribute asserting his semi-divine status. The hair is rendered in thick, flowing locks swept back from the forehead and falling in voluminous waves behind, executed in the high-relief Hellenistic style. The facial features are idealized yet individualizing, with a strong brow, prominent nose, and slightly parted lips. No legend appears on the obverse, the entire field being devoted to the heroic portrait. The engraving is of fine Hellenistic workmanship consistent with official posthumous issues struck in the name of Lysimachus. |
