| Beschrijving voorzijde | Youthful head of Herakles facing right, depicted in three-quarter relief, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress with the scalp covering the crown and the forepaws knotted at the throat. The facial features display the idealized Lysippan portrait style associated with Alexander III, with pronounced musculature and curling hair visible beneath the lion skin. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of posthumous Hellenistic issues struck at Miletos. |

Miletos had a complicated relationship with Macedonian authority — the city fell to Alexander in 334 BC after a brief siege, and its mint was subsequently conscripted into the vast coinage program that funded the eastern campaigns. These posthumous issues, struck well after Alexander's death in 323 BC, reflect the fragmented successor politics of the early Diadochi period, when controlling Alexander's name on coinage was itself a political act. Price 2143 is a relatively scarce variety within the Milesian posthumous series.
